How does video enhance the user experience on a webpage?

Videos are Better
To really come to terms with the user experience enhancement afforded by videos, we must first consider the nature of that which constitutes our web-page user experience. For one, reading lengthy excerpts on a computer feels incompatible with the way we look to access information on the Internet. When reading a book, specifically when engaged in close-reading for research or literary analysis purposes, we intuitively expect and prepare to spend a long time reading before reaching our main argument/point. When surfing the web, we are looking for:
a) Quick-to-digest information
b) Easily-accessible information
c) Illustrative, alternative approaches to the same concepts
A written post will vary in reading time depending upon user competency and could very well prove nearly impossible to digest for those with learning challenges. For others, intonational nuances not expressed in written language and structural ambiguity further complicate comprehension.
What, then, is the solution to this?

Media.
If a picture speaks a thousand words, videos speak a thousand concepts. Videos can effectively communicate all the desired information quickly, accessibly, and adequately. In addition to being eye-catching, videos are memorable and generally far more enjoyable. By ensuring that the user receives only the level of informational depth that they are interested in, there is a greater chance that the user will feel comfortable engaging with the webpage. Moreover, for the average user typically bombarded and overwhelmed with an abundance of information online, videos are a refreshing change. This is especially true for certain demographics. Instead of clicking out of the website confused, non-English speaking audiences and those with learning difficulties will have had a relaxed experience learning about the topic.
Hearing information, as it turns out, allows for a far more user-tailored experience. Bearing in mind the benefits afforded by videos, it would serve us well to go out of our way to include them in our web pages. If not to entertain our audience, then to support those in it who may struggle with reading comprehension. No one benefits from an intimidated or confused audience! Videos are the way to go.
